South African School at the Impact Cricket Academy

A talented group of cricketers and dedicated staff from St Stithians College, Johannesburg, South Africa visited the Impact Cricket Academy in October 2002 as part of an 18-day Australian tour covering Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Canberra and regional New South Wales. During their 5-day stay with families from Brisbane Boys' College, the boys enjoyed wonderful hospitality provided by our billets. Equally, the 4 staff, led by the Headmaster, Mr Alistair Stewart, were wonderful gentlemen and ensured a successful and memorable trip for the entire touring group.

The Program

The boys (aged between 12 and 13 years) participated in a 2-day coaching clinic conducted by the Impact Cricket Academy. During this time, the Academy’s professional, accredited coaches taught the young cricketers the "Australian Way" of playing the game of cricket. Each boy was videotaped and given an analysis of his batting and bowling and some coaching tips to improve his game. The St Stithians staff also found the experience of great benefit and gained a great deal from our Academy coaches.

The Match

A cricket match was then played between the BBC U/13 team and St Stithians College boys’ as the culmination of five days of cricket playing, coaching, socialising and wonderful experiences for both BBC boys and their families with our South African visitors. The boys and staff from South Africa were marvellous ambassadors for their school and their country and I am confident they feel the same way about our BBC boys and their families. St Stithians won the match, played under modified rules, by 16 runs. Special congratulations to all players for their wonderful sportsmanship displayed on
the day.

Thank you

Finally, can I thank all those associated with hosting the St Stithians group especially the BBC families. Your support of this venture has been much appreciated. We wish Alistair Stewart and his staff and students all the very best for the remainder of their tour.
The Impact Cricket Academy is proud to have been a part of such a successful venture.
